Attunement Rules

Attunement is required for the use of Magical items -- whether Rune-Magical or True-Magical. Attunement is necessary in order to take advantage of the effects of the item. IC, Attunement aligns yourself with the Magical Item and gives you understanding on the item.

Types of Magical Items
  • Rune-Magical items: These are magical items powered by Runestones. Purists may see these items as "false magical items" but they still have magic flowing through them. Runic Masons are capable of affixing a Runestone into an item to make it magical.    
  • True-Magical Items: These are Truly Magical Items that were created specifically to be magical. Magic runs through every atom of this item. These are very rare and extremely special items. Those with Detect Magic skills are capable of differentiating a True-Magical Item from a Rune-Magical Item.  
How to Attune
Attunement will vary depending on the item and it's rank. Like everything else, Attuning to a Magical Item will require a specific word count in order to attune to them. If an item has even 1 Runestone, you'll need to attune to it.

However, in order to even Attune to a Magical Item, you are required to have at least INT 5. You cannot attune to anything if your INT is too low.
  • Rank 1 Magical Item: 300 words
  • Rank 2 Magical Item: 400 words
  • Rank 3 Magical Item: 500 words
  • Rank 4 Magical Item: 600 words
  • Rank 5 Magical Item: 700 words
IMPORTANT: Every time a new Runestone is added or Runestones have been changed around, you'll need to re-attune to the item in order to understand how to use those Runestones.
IMPORTANT: If attuning to an item in a Solo RP, the minimum of 500 words is still required in order to get credit for that post.

Attunement Completion
Once you have finished attuning to the item, you will not benefit from it (in topics outside of the same topic you attuned to it) until you performed a Character Update -- which means you need to leave the topic and submit a Character Update stating that you have attuned to that item. PROTIP: If you are attuning to a Rune-Magical Item -- it is best to have all Runestone Slots filled before attuning as it won't cost additional words to attune to a fully Runestoned item.

Maximum Number of Attunements
May only be attuned to a maximum of 5 items at a time. If you are over 5 attunements, you will need to drop attunement (simply declare it in your Update) and attune to the new item.
